Getting there from College Green: Hop onto the Circle Line MRT at the Botanic Gardens Station (CC19) towards HarbourFront. Alight at Haw Par Villa Station (CC25).

 

Remarks: The locals hardly visit there, but this venerable theme park with garishly-painted concrete characters is an indelible piece of Singapore’s history and is utterly charming. Famous for its “Ten Courts of Hell”, wherein sinners are punished in the Chinese vision of the afterlife by gory and imaginative means. The best reason to visit Haw Par Villa is ease of access. It is merely four MRT stops away from College Green and entry is free.

 

After your visit, you can continue down the MRT line towards either Labrador Park (to visit the Labrador Walkway – see “Nature Tours”) or to Vivocity Shopping Complex at HarbourFront (see “shopping”).
